Ready, Aim…Who’s Your Target?

In order to build awareness of your brand online it is mandatory that you hone in on the exact people that will be most interested in what you have to offer. You should also make sure they have the money to spend on your product or service. An awful amount of time and energy will be wasted in marketing to people that either aren’t interested or that are not financially positioned to purchase from you.

Your resources will be exhausted if you are marketing to everyone. Many make the mistake of attempting to market to anyone and everyone. It’s the equivalent of trying to hit a bulls-eye with a machine gun. You will shoot lots of bullets, but the chances of hitting your target are pretty slim. On the other hand, if you were to become proficient with a bow and arrow and you’d be more likely to hit your target.

It is critical that you define a specific target market for your product or service so you can position yourself as an authority in the marketplace and attract your ideal clients.

Ask yourself first “What problem(s) am I able to solve and who will most benefit from my product or service?” Who are my ideal clients, the people I will enjoy working with the most?

Your target market consists of your ideal clients and the people who influence them. These are the people that will benefit most from your product or service.

These are the clients that produce the most balanced working relationships for you. These are the people that need and can pay for exactly what you are offering and you have the answers and resources to solve their most pressing problems.

Be mindful that your target market is who you will market to consistently. This does not mean you can’t work with anyone outside of that target audience, but that your marketing strategy will not be aimed at them. Many clients I’ve worked with have been nervous about narrowing down their target market. They felt as though they would be limiting the number of clients they were able to attract if they were too specific about who their clients are.

Let me be the one to tell you the exact opposite is true. Once you have determined who your ideal clients are, where they can be found and how to directly communicate your message, you will start attracting more clients.
