Branding, Relationships, Engagement, and How it All Works Together

Building a brand can be just like dating.

You know how dating goes: there is some initial courting, getting to know each other, see if you can benefit each other’s lives long-term. To woo someone, you would never just go on one date and say that is enough, you have to continue to talk to each other.

Branding and customer engagement are no different. You can’t get customers and clients to buy from you until you create context and a relationship with them. You can’t simply just explain what you do and expect them to hire you right away, instead you have to do a little business courting.

How do you begin to woo customers? You do that by constantly engaging in an authentic, valuable way. People can smell someone who is not authentic from a mile away, and the only way to build a brand that feels good and lasts is to connect with who you are and bring that forward.

Here are some tips for authentic brand engagement to get your customers to absolutely love you:

Use the language you would use, not just your typical industry language.

Using words and language that are unique to your personality instead of your industry will set you apart. Think of how you would describe things instead of the overused buzzwords out there. Maybe you want to call your group consultations a clambake. That is something that would really set you apart and get attention. Write out all of the terms you hear constantly in your industry and find new ways to describe each and every one.

Keep in contact with everyone who comes into your circle.

Make sure to stay in contact with not just your clients and customers, but also people who might potentially become one. Many business owners make the mistake of only keeping in contact with the people who have hired them instead of the people that might buy from you. Check in with the people who have reached out to you, and if you can, bring them value in some kind of way and they will never forget you.

Share your story.

Your story will bring a unique view that no one else in your industry can bring because they haven’t lived your life. Some people will be able to relate to you and your story if you share it because most of us have been through similar difficult times. How did you overcome your struggles to get where you are now? How could you provide insight?

Keep your products, services, and branding unique to who you are and your vision.

Focus on building a brand that has to do with the heart of who you are and what you’re about instead of thinking about what other people in your industry are doing. Keeping your services unique to who you are will always set you apart, and keeping them in line with the ultimate vision you have for your life will catch the eye of everyone around you.

Be open to helping anyone.

This ties in a little to point #2, but this is also about helping anyone who comes into your business circle. Sometimes people will just have simple questions that you could answer on your social media sites, and by answering them you will become an invaluable resource in your industry.
